Thoughts on Sandy Hook...

Let's assume gun manufacturers know what percentage of their profits are based on sales through questionable channels, ie, they have data on how much gun control could potentially cost them. Simple deductive reasoning tells us conscious choices must be made in these board rooms embracing profit above human life. If it didn't cost them, they'd capitulate because then it would be good business.

Let's assume gun manufacturers know what percentage of their profits are generated through questionable channels, ie, they have data on how much gun control could potentially cost them. Simple reason tells us conscious choices must be made in board rooms embracing profit before human life. Capitulating to the popular sentiment would be good business if it didn't cost them.

White House press secretary Jay Carney said "today is not the day" to discuss gun laws. Is that because public sensitivity to the senseless murder of innocents threatens those profits? Shouldn't we discuss it while the meaning of the loss - reflected in the eyes of those children all over the news - is still fresh? Isn't that the point?

I'm a staunch supporter of the Constitution, but the gun laws as currently constructed do not keep weapons beyond the reach of organized crime, drug cartels, gangs, et al. What they do is put them into the hands of the most pathetic among us. The most hapless, demented social pariah from your 11th grade class can effortlessly obtain the means to take out dozens of unsuspecting people in a random setting before anyone can lay a hand on him. What's wrong with this picture?
